Srinagar, Oct 23 (KNO): Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag has organised the first-ever IAP-ALS workshop in Kashmir, in collaboration with the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) ALSBLS group.
Dr Showkat Hussain Tali, Head of the Department of Pediatrics, speaking with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said the workshop aims to enhance patient care and academic training. National IAP-ALSBLS trainers have come to Anantnag to provide local paediatricians and pediatric residents with acute life support training over a two-day workshop.
Dr Tali said this is the first training course of its kind conducted in any medical college in the Kashmir region since Independence. “The objective of these workshops is to train paediatricians and residents in acute life support techniques. This means they will learn how to treat critically ill patients according to world-class standards,” he said.
Dr Rukhsana Najeeb, Principal and Dean of GMC Anantnag, said the workshop will enhance the skills of doctors and greatly contribute to improved patient care and academic performance. She expressed gratitude to the Indian Academy of Pediatrics for providing master trainers and hopes for ongoing support from IAP in the future for the benefit of patient care and academic growth.
Dr A.K. Rawat, Dean of GMC Sagar Madhya Pradesh, said the initiative focuses on equipping participants with the skills to manage critically ill pediatric patients by adhering to global best practices.
The workshop highlighted advanced techniques and protocols for handling emergencies in pediatric care to ensure that doctors are better prepared to deliver life-saving interventions.
Experts leading the sessions said there is often a critical window for intervention before a child's death, and saving a single life is a profound achievement for humanity. The sessions included hands-on training, simulations, and real-life scenarios to help participants practice and perfect their skills—(KNO)
